Mobileye located in Jerusalem, believes that the driving environment is too complex for hand-crafted rule-based decision making. Instead they adopt the use of machine learning to “learn” the decision making process through exposure to data. Driving Policy must balance between unexpected behavior of pedestrians and at the same time not to be too defensive so that normal traffic flow is maintained.
The firm is currently developing its fifth generation system on chip (SoC) that will lead to fully autonomous vehicles. Intel and Mobileye will have autonomous test vehicles on the roads by the second half of 2017. The transaction is expected to close within the next nine months.
